Driving around one afternoon
and being struck by the number of American flags we
saw adorning vehicles, houses, bridges, and buildings,
the impact of how Americans have united together to
get through the tragedy of September 11th was awe
inspiring. Stars and stripes are everywhere along
with the words "God Bless America" and "United We
Stand". "But what about the rest of the world", we
thought. United as Americans, We Stand, or United
We All Stand? Tragedies such as what we, as Americans,
experienced on that fearful day, happen all over the
world on a daily basis. And although one of the blessings
stemming from this tragedy may be how Americans have
rediscovered a sense of patriotism and dedication
to their country, the problem with its expression
is that it appears to be to the exclusion of others.
Shifting our focus from those things that
separate us to that which joins us together helps
us aspire toward a common good - a higher purpose.
And although there are distinct differences in the
way we look, where we may live, and how we worship,
the common threads of love, compassion, and inherent
needs for peace, are intrinsically woven through each
of us to form the fabric of humanity from which we
may all be clothed. Peace and Unity must begin with
individuals, within our own hearts - our "inner" selves.
Coming from this place we connect with like-hearts,
and go into the world, not just America, with an intention
of unity that transcends differences, consequently
making them sacred rather than separate.
It is with these principles in mind that the
idea for the Unity Flag was conceived. We believe
that Unity is a process of "Inner" Faith. Faith in
the truth that, at our core, our inner most essence,
we are One - One with the earth, the universe, with
each other, and All That Is; regardless of race, religion,
beliefs, or geographical location on the planet. Process
implies that which is never ending, a constant, and
a journey rather than a destination. That journey
must begin not outside of ourselves, but from inside
[inner] each and every one of us. Unity is that continuum
of pure potentiality, limitless possibility, and that
which is boundless and can be the only consequence
of intention that is pure.
The Mission of the UNITY
flag is to support us in bringing our collective hearts
into the world in a cooperative effort to create TRUE
PEACE - that is, an inner peace and unity with
All That Is.
